Wooden referee whistle: make your own

Are you creative and want to try something new? Make your own wooden referee whistle. If you have the right equipment, it’s very easy to make. Steve Ramsey shows you how to do it in the video below.

Ramsey: “This really loud whistle is also known as a ‘pea whistle’ because it has a little ball, or pea, inside that gives it that recognizable trilling sound. It’s quite easy to make. If you don’t have a bandsaw, this would be a great project to use an inexpensive coping saw”

What do you need to make your own wooden referee whistle?

  • piece of 3/4 inch think wood
  • 2 pieces of 1/8 inch think wood
  • 1/4 inch diameter ball or bead inside

If the size of your wood is rectangular and about 7 by 4 centimeters, that would be enough. Download and print this sheet and you have the right sizes.
