Week 14 Laws of the Game Quiz

The quizzes get tricky sometimes. Last week the score was 3 out of 3 on average. I hope that this week you’ll score at least 4 out 5 correct. Good luck!

Surely under the new laws, the answer to 3 should be ‘indirect free kick and yellow card’, as the defender has made a genuine attempt for the ball?

Hi Matt, thanks for the comment. The new rules say that “if the referee awards a penalty kick, the player is cautioned unless.” But in this situation, the first requirement is not met. The referee does not award a penalty kick for an IDFK offence.

And further, if I may, the SOTG’s requirement that play be safe is not met, since he played in a dangerous manner. I’m sure if you explain to the defender that you could see the wind from his cleats flick the attacker’s hair, he will understand.

About Q 3. No option for IDFK & no caution/sendoff? Can’t play it in my head, dangerous with no contact why would you card?

Sebastian, it’s not for the foul itself but because someone denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity!
