Euro 2016 highlights (3): Willie Collum proud of Euro 2016

The Euro 2016 has been a great one for refereeing. No huge mistakes and solid performances. BBC has spoken with Willie Collum about his performance, and more highlights of the last weeks of the Euro 2016 tournament.

Winner of signed cards

The winner of the signed cards by Dutch top referee Björn Kuipers are won by Thanos Karaiskos. His tip for other referees was: “Do the right thing according to you because no player and no coach is going to admit that did something wrong that led to the loss of their team. Everyone is going to blame the referee.” The referee from Greece added to that: “It gave me confidence to give what I think was right and don’t think what the world is going to tell”.

The winner was picked by picking a random number, as mentioned in the terms. I will use other tips as well in future blog posts. They were awesome. Thank you all for participating in this competition to win free signed cards by Björn Kuipers.

Willie Collum proud of his Euro 2016

Scottish referee Willie Collumn is proud of what he achieved during the European Championships. “It was disappointing, unusually, to see all the home nations going through,” he said to BBC. “Of course we wished them well, but it probably made it very difficult for us to stay, particularly because there were three British referees there and I’m the least experienced.” The Scotchman was happy he did not make huge mistake. “I would rather come home with two good, solid performances under my belt than having made an error and been sent back for that reason.”

Check full interview where he also talks about preparation for next season.

The hands of Joachim Löw

After a handball by Boateng and the handball by Schweinsteiger in the semi’s, I read this tweet about positioning of your hands. Click if you missed what German coach Löw did.

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>Joachim Low should teach his players where to keep their hands. Oh wait. <a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/FRAGER?src=hash”>#FRAGER</a></p>&mdash; Mihai Cazacu (@faustocoppi60) <a href=”https://twitter.com/faustocoppi60/status/751140902287081473″>July 7, 2016</a></blockquote>

Neuer kicks ball on Kassai

I was abroad during the Quarter Finals and missed this. Just wanted to share it with you. Neuer wasn’t so accurate with his kick.
