    7 January, 2014 / 6 Comments

Watch this NHL Life Series which showcases NHL Referee Tom Kowal. “A referee’s Life” is a short documentary about a referee in the highest hockey league of the USA and Canada. Tom Kowal tells about a flood on June 20 2013 that devastated Calgary. The so-called “Alberta floods” were so heavy, the water got 6 feet up into Kowal’s house. That will make you a better referee. Have faith in your teammates – your assistant referees. Support of your family in…

Ball smashes in face of assistant referee

    24 November, 2013 / 7 Comments

Ball smashes in face of assistant referee. Luckily it has never happend to me. Hibernian captain Liam Craig wants to clear the ball away from his defence and tries to shoot the ball over the line. It did, and the ball unwittingly hit the assistant referee very hard on his head. As noted as comment on the YouTube video: “The official looked dazed for several seconds but took it on the chin and bravely shrugged it off. Respect!” Watch the clip from St Mirren – Hibernian in the SPFL Scottish Premiership on 23th of November 2013.

Wrexham ghost goal allowed after six minutes

    18 November, 2013 / 11 Comments

A Wrexham ghost goal was allowed after six minutes of debating by the referee and her assistants. Amy Fearn, the first women who refereed an FA Cup match, initially disallowed the goal and awarded a goal kick. The Wrexham players went mad. After debating six minutes with her assistants, Fearn allowed the goal and Kidderminster Harriers players were angry at her. In the end, that was the right decision. Check out a video of the Wrexham ghost goal against Kidderminster. How do you check the nets before the match? And do you check every part of it? This hole was very small, as you can see in the video below.…
