Be fully prepared The winter Olympics has proven that facilities might not always be perfect. Hotel rooms were not finished and streets were not safe tweeted journalists. Watch your step @Sochi2014 — I've noticed on walkway and on sidewalks that not all man holes are always covered. pic.twitter.com/a5Nv4wu5iA — Jo-Ann Barnas (@JoAnnBarnas) February 1, 2014 I heared a Dutch sports journalist on tv that he drove the highway, the took the exit, but the road ended after two hundred…

Why effective communication is the key to being a successful football referee
Why effective communication is the key to being a successful football referee. A great story that all referees can benefit from. As referees, we have a tough ride in general; particularly those operating at the top level with English Premier League officials being perhaps the most ‘scrutinised’ of all. Some parts of the tough ride we bring upon ourselves, it has to be said. The most impressive (and most successful) referees are those who are able to communicate efficiently and effectively with players, without taking on an air of superiority. How do I know? What makes me qualified to say that? I am an ex-player with 15 years in the…

Check out the video en read below how a referee should restart play in this situation. http://youtu.be/9xQMVfpM1Qc Does the referee have to stop play when a second ball enters the field? Goal – no goal situation – what assistant referees should do
Very strange situation in Dutch highest amateur league: the assistant referee spots that the ball has crossed the line, but play goes on for about two minutes before the referee finally awards the goal. It’s an amateur match between Noordwijk and Scheveningen and referee Andries Dijkstra let the play continue after a goal – no goal situation. After two minutes he decides to have a talk with his assistant referee, who assures him the ball has crossed the line. A form of miscommunication between the match officals. Check out the video of the goal – no goal situation and read what went wrong and the solution to avoid miscommunication below.…

Referee fouls player in Brazilian league
You think Andrés D’Alessandro is a diver? Not this time. The Argentinian player got fouled by the referee when his team Internacional was playing against Atletico Minero in the Brazilian league. The referee was running his diagonal line but missed that D’Alessandra walked back to pick up a pass from a teammate. The player kept on the ground for a few seconds after the collision. The referee immediately whistled to stop play. At that moment the players from Atletico Minero could pick up the ball and start an unexpected counter-attack. As referee it would be a shame if a team scores because you collided with the player who could have…

Referee shirt colour: change outfit during first half
What would be the ideal referee shirt colour? Due to new possibilities referees sometimes make stange mistakes by picking almost the same referee outfit colour as one of the teams’ shirts. One referee had to change his shirt during the first half – the assistants followed him after half-time. Check out the examples below. The man in black is still the right term for amateur referees in England, but many football associations in other countries allow their referees to wear their refs all sorts of colours. Even the professional referees in the Premier League do use all sorts of colours. Their last season kits were greenish, red and black and…
